Ritterkreuzträger Profile 12: Walther Dahl - Kommodore der Rammjäger

This Profile series presents biographies of famous and less famous knights cross holders of the German forces in WWII. Some were spectacular, others simply silent fighters. But all of them performed in a unique manner. Colonel Walther Dahl, wing commander of the Rammjäger (collision fighters) was also the last general of the day fighters in WW II. His bravery was legendary. Dahl and his pilot were the last to engage the vast amount of flying fortresses in 1945 promising at least one kill per sortie.
The Fighter Wing 300 was the most successful unit in the home defense. 1089 kills including 547 four engine bombers were on their list. But this had its price. 105 pilots were killed and more than 200 fighters were lost.
