In this three-volume reference work, with more than 1500 pages, previously unknown facts about the 1st class of the Iron Cross of 1914. Here, the production of the Iron Crosses in World War 1 is discussed in detail. This is proven by sources and scientific evidence. In addition, the multitude of manufacturing variants never shown before is shown. All suppliers known to the author, as well as their history, variations of frames, core types, and brochures are covered in this work.
Volume I contains general information, such as the history, regulations, award procedures, technical manufacturing aspects, government procurement agencies, cost of procurement, and much more.
In Volumes II and III, Mr. Thater deals exclusively with the various designs of the Iron Cross, as well as cases and packaging.
