Forczyk, The Kuban 1943 - The Wehrmacht's last stand in the Caucasus (Campaign CAM 318)
In the wake of the destruction of 6. Armee at Stalingrad, the German Oberkommando ordered Heeresgruppe A to begin evacuating the Caucasus. Hitler, however, insisted on maintaining a bridgehead in the Kuban (protected by the 250,00 -strong 17. Armee), for any possible future offensives against the Caucasus oil production facilities. The Soviet North Caucasus Front and Black Sea Fleet were ordered to eliminate the Kuban bridgehead as soon as possible, setting the stage for a contest between an immovable object and an unstoppable force. This superbly illustrated account of the fighting in the Kuban in 1943 covers the daring Soviet amphibious landing near Novorossiysk, the "Little Land", and the increasing scale and intensity of the air and ground battles leading up to the final German evacuation in September 1943.
96 pages, paperback, text in english, many photos, many full-page colored illustrations, colored maps
